1857 Old Courthouse 202 N Main St. Salisbury

This 1850s county courthouse survived Stoneman's Raid and served Rowan until the early 20th century. Our rotating and permanent exhibits cover a wide range of Rowan County history from its beginning to present day. 

We give personalized tours of our exhibits and can focus on time periods that best fit your curriculum/grade level. (ex. Civil War, Westward Expansion etc…).

Old Stone House 770 Stone House Rd. Salisbury

Michael Braun, an 18th century German immigrant, used his newfound prosperity to create a large piedmont plantation by 1766.

Your trip will include access to the house, trails to the creek, the family cemetery and garden. This site focuses on the colonial period of history.

China Grove Roller Mill 308 North Main St. China Grove

Local entrepreneurs built this Roller Mill in 1903 to mechanize grain grinding. It was in operation until the 1990s. Discover the industrialization that forever changed agriculture and Rowan County.  

With your school group we can focus on the history of farming, mill life and weather.

Setzer School 1636 Parkview Circle Salisbury

This one-room log structure dated 1847 gives a window into early public-school history in NC. During its operational years it was located near China Grove, NC. It was moved to its current location in 1961 and restored.

By scheduling a class visit to Setzer School, they can experience an 1800s school day brought to life.
